The Gospel according to John is not about John. It's not about John the Baptist either. It's about Jesus, and that’s what makes this book so compelling! And we have an important role to play in this story. God sends us to witness about the Word that became flesh; God who is making himself known to us. Despite our culture's call on us to be the main character of our own stories, being a witness is a noble call; it's a meaningful life; it's helpful in creating a beautiful community that promotes sacrificial love, commitment, and loyalty. Rather than choosing to be our own saviour and putting all that pressure on ourselves, we could say, "He's him!" and point people to our Saviour and Lord.
