Passage: John 13:31-38

Jesus gives his followers a new commandment--one which is made possible by his work on the cross: to love one another just as he has loved us. The "Just as I have loved you" part of this commandment signals that Jesus is referring to a specific display of love--a specific snapshot--shown on the cross; laying down his own precious life for those who were not worthy of his beautiful sacrifice. In the same way, we are called to love one another. The nature of our relationship with our God is fundamentally rooted in grace, and Jesus shows us that our relationship with one another can be touched by the same grace of our Lord, which will showcase to the world that we are truly his disciples.
