Passage: John 18:12-27

John 18:12-27 falls within the passion narrative, a dramatic and flowing sequence of scenes leading to and including Jesus' death and resurrection. In this scene, we see Jesus pulled into an informal hearing or interrogation while Peter, one of Jesus' inner circle disciples, shamefully denies being a follower of Jesus. John masterfully contrasts the actions of Jesus with the actions of Peter, demonstrating the great need we have for Jesus.

Further, this unfolding scene prompts us to consider an important question: As we navigate a broken and sin-marred world, how do we keep our gaze fixed on Christ, firm in our faith, amidst the challenges, trials, and persecution we face in a hostile world? And the answer is that we can't do it on our own.
