Passage: John 20:19-23

As we navigate through the complexities, challenges, and real struggles of life, fear and anxiety may be reasonable responses to our situation and context, but today's text in Scripture shows us that they are inadequate responses in light of who Jesus is. Jesus offers us peace like no other in the face of these challenges because he has shown us that he had victory over sin and death. His hands and his side that he shows to his disciples are evidence of his victory, and therefore, we can find reasons for hope and peace even in situations that would normally bring despair. As Christ breathes his breath of life on his church, the Holy Spirit fills us afresh for the mission that we are a part of. The bible states that we are ambassadors for Christ and that we are on a mission for the ministry of reconciliation. This ministry of radical grace is what the Holy Spirit has empowered us for. Our new lives have received new breath (Spirit) of life, and therefore the only way in which we can live in this resurrection life is by binding ourselves to the beautiful mission of our Lord Jesus. Grace and peace marked the newly formed church community in the first century, and it ought to define who we are as the church today.
