Passage: John 2:1-11
John 2:1-11 marks the start of Jesus' public ministry. He kicks things off with his first sign, a miracle, and it's a pretty crazy miracle: Jesus turns water into wine. This sign serves as a clue at the start of Jesus' ministry that helps his audience understand what the apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5: 17: “…The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” Jesus is ushering in something new and amazing. A new way for us to relate to God that involves complete transformation. This miracle of water to wine points to Christ's ultimate work of transformation achieved through his death and resurrection. When we choose to follow Jesus as Saviour and Lord, we are no longer enslaved to sin, but rather, we become a new creation, a part of the new covenant, enjoying a personal, eternal, and right relationship with God!
