Passage: John 18:28-40

John juxtaposes the sinfulness of the Roman and Jewish authorities with the blameless King Jesus who is the sacrificial lamb that is completely without sin. Through this corrupt trial, we find that Jesus remains entirely sinless, but he willingly and intentionally heads towards the cross so that he could stand in our place and pay for the penalty of the sins of humankind. As the Jews choose Barabbas over Jesus, and as Pilate chooses political expediency and self-interest over justice, we, as the readers, are made to choose as well: Will we choose the brokenness of the world or the reign of King Jesus? Will we choose the light of the world or choose to remain in darkness? Will we choose to surrender our lives to the just reign of King Jesus and follow him faithfully? This is an invitation for us to have a new life; a life of abundance; a life with a new heart and a new spirit.
