Passage: John 19:17-22

As we walk through the Passion narrative, we see Jesus' suffering put on public display, which was intended to heap shame on him, but the result of his suffering took away our shame and showed the universality of his beautiful reign to the whole world that was watching. As we try to make sense of our own suffering in this world, we can look to Jesus and know that we have a trustworthy God who deeply cares about us and remains in control as the sovereign king even amidst our suffering. Moreover, our suffering can find tremendous meaning in Christ as we acknowledge that our pain can, at times, be an opportunity for others to witness the powerful work of God and his glory. Our lives can be a public display of God in us even while we struggle. There is nothing worse than having someone tell you that your suffering is meaningless. Remember, that in Christ, your suffering is not unseen or wasted; it is seen by our Lord who deeply cares for you and it is meaningful even while you may not understand it in the moment. Take heart.
