Passage: Hebrews 9:15-28
Hebrews 9:15-28 highlights why Jesus needed to give his life as a sacrifice, why his blood needed to be shed, to bring true salvation. The author of Hebrews is helping us understand the mechanics of atonement and how Jesus' atoning work on the cross was superior to the atoning work of animal sacrifices in the context of the Old Testament sacrificial system. And this is incredibly important to understand to fully grasp what is happening on the cross, especially for us in the 21st century, far removed from the concept of animal sacrifices as a means of atonement. Ultimately, this text brings us to a place of reverence and awe for Jesus and what he accomplished for us on the cross and leaves us overwhelmed with how much God loves us and the amazing grace he has shown us!
