Pastoral Search Team Update #7

29Mar, 2017

Thank you for your prayers. We have been asking the congregation to join us as we prepare for the change that comes with welcoming a new lead pastor. We have also asked for your prayers, that God will lead us to the man he has already chosen for our church and that the Holy Spirit will give us wisdom, discernment, and unity as we evaluate applicants. We also asked that you plan to be part of the process. Apart from praying for us, we will need everyone’s help when it is time to host a candidate here for a visit, and we hope that everyone will be part of the decision to call the next pastor and part of the warm welcome when he arrives. We thank you for your prayers and encouragement.

This week the pastoral search team had our most exciting meeting yet. Our website went live this week so people can see the job posting and learn about our church and community. You can find the link to the posting at southdelta.org/joinus. We invite you to share this link with anyone who may be interested.

We are also very excited because we spent time going through our first three applications. It is clear that there will be a lot of diversity in the types of applicants who contact us and we are so grateful to have so many people praying for us as we take each applicant through our well-defined process.

Our process has many steps. Basically, each applicant is considered based on a substantial list of criteria that was compiled by the PST and the elder board. Those who make it through the first screening will then be sent a set of questions for their response. If an applicant makes it through a couple sets of questions, a phone interview, and reference interviews, they will be “shortlisted.” From the short list, the board will select who they feel is the best applicant for us to follow up on with a further phone interview and face to face visits here and at his current location. If we still feel the individual is a suitable candidate, we will bring them here to meet the congregation, preach, and be a part of our community for a week. That will be followed a week later by an SDBC members meeting where our members will vote on whether to extend a call to the candidate to be our lead pastor.

We expect that the next few weeks will be very busy for us as applications start flowing in. Please remember to Prepare for change, Pray for our search team, and Plan to be part of the process.
