As you heard on Sunday, Mary and Phil Grierson had their baby last week! What a blessing for their family and for our church family as well. This also means Mary has officially begun her maternity leave and she is scheduled to return to work in January of 2026.
Oftentimes, church staff mix our work and private lives because we desire to live in authentic community with our church family. However, working for a church means that there are professional expectations of us, and these expectations and our non-professional participation in the church body can sometimes be confusing. Mary and Phil love our church, and they expect to continue to attend our services and participate in our church life. It would be very helpful if our church can respect Mary's maternity leave and make sure we remember that she is not participating as an employee of SDBC but as a part of the church family.
We are so blessed to have a church staff that loves the church family so much, and we are also so blessed to have a church family that loves and supports our staff so well. We expect that Mary will return to our team rejuvenated and excited, but until that time, please enjoy Mary, Phil, and baby Jayne as a part of our beautiful church family!
