Despite everything that's happened the past year, past few months, and past few weeks, God is good! I do not want to speak for everyone, but I believe it is a fair assumption to say that we have all had to make sacrifices, change plans, and adapt to new rhythms and routines in our everyday lives these past few months, let alone couple years. So much so that we don't even know what is coming our way on any given day! Nevertheless, God has provided so much for me, personally, for our SDBC Kids ministry, and our church as a whole. Throughout my time at SDBC (which I realize now has been about nine years – four as an attendee and now five in ministry…wow!) I have known a sense of belonging, love, and community that God lavishes upon our church family. I felt this especially this past month as so many reached out after the passing of my dad. My family was overwhelmed (in the best way possible) with love and support from our SDBC community, and we are so thankful to have this family in our lives.
We have so much to be thankful for. Through every season, the good and the bad, the easy ride and the rollercoaster, that life can bring, God is giving abundantly to his flock. Even though Thanksgiving was a few weeks ago, God has not stopped giving to us; he never stops giving, so why should we stop remembering to give thanks? The answer is, we shouldn't!
As we were brainstorming ways to give thanks to God, we thought of the best way possible, which dates all the way back to bible times: a party! In the bible, people celebrated the things God had done for them and given to them – David would dance and sing praises to God and the Jews would have feasts to remember what God had done for them. Now it's our turn to celebrate!
On Sunday, October 31st, the SDBC Kids team will be celebrating the abundance of gifts God gives us every single day. The kids in our Sunday School program, from preschool to elementary, will join their parents for worship as usual, then, instead of our typical Sunday curriculum, we will all gather in the big room upstairs (room 202/204) for a special harvest-themed message, followed by fun games, crafts, and activities (and maybe even a special treat for your kids to bring home)!
This will be a special morning for your kids to celebrate who God is and what he's given each and every one of us! We want this harvest celebration to be BIG, so get your kids to invite their friends, family, and neighbours for more people to join in on the fun of celebrating God's abundant blessings in our lives.
