Why do we give? We believe that God expects his church to be generous givers. Jesus taught that "it is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35). God challenges his people to give and see how God blesses the lives of faithful givers (Malachi 3:10). At SDBC, we do not teach prosperity gospel; meaning that we do not believe that your giving will always result in wealth and health for you and your family. In fact, we do not even ask you to give expecting those things in return. We call you to consider giving to the Lord's work through his church because we believe God gave us all that we have, and that we are expressing our gratitude by giving a portion of it back to him. We also believe that giving to God's church is an expression of our commitment to God's mission. Matthew 6:21 says, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Our heart is with God in his amazing mission to save his people through his gospel. We believe God's grace ultimately expressed in Jesus' death on the cross compels us to give to God's work that shares this gospel with our city and beyond. We want to see our city transformed by the gospel; we want to see Jesus be Lord in our homes and neighbourhoods; we want to experience God's goodness and love present in our community through his church. So, we give joyfully; not reluctantly (2 Corinthians 9:7).
