Moving on Up!

29Aug, 2024

Big things are happening this fall! With school starting up and families falling back into weekly rhythms and routines, we wanted to give you a snapshot of what will be happening for your kids at SDBC both in SDBC Kids and Youth Ministry, come September 8th.

SDBC Kids
Our Fall Launch is always a busy Sunday in the SDBC Kids wing, as many kids will be transitioning to new rooms. This September, we will be opening Room 105! We are so thankful that God has provided our church with new families resulting in the growth of Kids Ministry and are so excited to rework our age breakdowns and open a new room.

If you, or someone you know, have kids in our program, we wanted to explain exactly what September 8th will look like. When you check in at the Bus that morning, please be patient, as our "age-up" system does not always accurately bump kids into their correct room. We do our best to ensure everyone is where they need to be, but we have a lot of kids moving rooms this year. If possible, please arrive a little earlier to give time for our Bus team to sign everyone in.

Our rooms breakdown will be as follows:
Nursery: Kids up to 18 months
Movers – Room 105: Kids 18 months - 2 years
Preschool – Room 102: Kids 3 - 4 years old (must be turning 3 years old by December 31, 2024)
Kindergarten & Grade 1 – Room 205: Kids entering Kindergarten & Grade 1
Elementary – Room 201: Kids entering Grades 2-4

We know this will be a big transition, especially for our toddlers and preschoolers. New can be scary, and the kids will be adjusting to a new room, new teachers, and new programming. Please be praying for our church's little ones during this time of transition in many areas of their lives! Your SDBC Kids team is here to help your family transition well to their new rooms, so if you have any questions or need any assistance, please ask a member of the SDBC Kids team!

Preteens and Youth
For those of you with kids entering Grades 5-7, we have the joy of welcoming your kids into two amazing programs we run for preteens: Gap Jr. and Flipt. Gap Jr. is a midweek program than runs at the church on Tuesday nights from 7-8:30PM, beginning on Tuesday, September 10th. We play games, learn about God's love for us, and give away lots of slurpees!

Flipt is our Sunday school program for preteens, where we take things a step further from Gap Jr. in learning about God. For our first session on September 8th, we will leave lots of room to allow for leaders to get to know the new Grade 5s and others joining us for the first time. Since Flipt is a part of Youth Ministries, you don't need to check in at the Bus. Just send them upstairs to the Youth Center when the host dismisses the kids and preteens.

For those of you with kids entering Grades 8-12, we're excited to welcome them into our Gap program! Gap takes place at the church on Sunday nights from 7-9PM, beginning Sunday, September 8th. Gap is a lot like Gap Jr. only we go a bit deeper into learning about God and the bible, and our nights feature more special activities like sharing food and worshipping together. This year, we will also be exploring serving opportunities.

If you'd like to stay up to date with what's happening at Gap, Gap Jr., and Flipt, sign up for our Youth Ministry Parent Newsletter by clicking here.

It's totally normal to be nervous when joining a new group. It can be sort of like starting at a new school. But what we love about our Kids and Youth Ministries is that no matter how shy or awkward kids might feel, we have an amazing team of leaders who are committed to ensuring everyone feels loved. Whatever program your kids are joining, if it's their first time, a leader will take time to learn their name, show them around, and help them get connected to other kids and the activities that are taking place.

We are really looking forward to welcoming your kids as we launch our ministry events in a couple of weeks. And if it takes them a bit longer to work up the courage to come, that's ok too. They can join us at any time! Our doors are always open!
