Manger Throne

21Nov, 2024

There is always much to wonder about when it comes to Christmas. It is a beautiful holiday, filled with family gatherings, tasty food and drink, gifts and glitter, peace and joy, and timely traditions. As followers of Jesus though, we hope to focus on the central figure of Christmas—Jesus Christ—the child born in Bethlehem. That is, after all, what Advent is all about. It is a longing to encounter the God who came to dwell among us, Jesus, Immanuel.

The Christmas season is fast approaching, and so with great anticipation like the wise men of old, we come to worship Jesus as king. And yet, what an unassuming king. What a mysterious Messiah. The incarnation, God becoming flesh, could have taken on a much more spectacular and dazzling entry, capturing the attention of every corner of creation. But God choose a different way to reveal himself to us. In the quiet of the night, in a small, no-name town, in a farm stable, this humble king was born. A king who came into the world just like any one of us, any one of HIS creations. A fragile, baby king in the hands of a young, inexperienced new mother. A king cradled in a feed trough. But though Jesus "emptied himself and took on the form of servant" (Phil 2:7) and left his heavenly throne to dwell among us, he did not cease to be king. This eternal king, was ruler before he made the heavens and the earth. He was king throughout all creation, past present and future. He was king among creation, the manger his throne. And he is and always will be the Resurrected King, reigning over all. This is Jesus, the humble King on his manger throne.

From Phil Wickhams song, Manger Throne:

"You could have stepped into creation with fire for all to see
Brought every tribe and nation to their knees
Arriving with the host of heaven in royal robe and crown
The rulers of the earth all bowing down
But you chose meekness over majesty
Wrapped your power in humanity
Glory be to you alone
King who reigns from a manger throne
My life, my praise, everything I own
To Jesus the King on a manger throne"

Please join us this Christmas season as we celebrate as a church and focus our hearts on Jesus our humble King. We have many exciting events planned for this Christmas. You can click the button below for more details.
