Come Be a Part of God's Work in Our Youth

10Dec, 2024

This fall has been an exciting season of growth and transformation in our youth ministry!

First, we've seen a remarkable increase in both the number of grade 8s at Gap (for Grades 8-12) and the number of boys at Gap Jr. (for Grades 5-7). This surge has brought fresh energy to our youth nights and created an inviting space where students are excited to bring their friends. It's inspiring to see new faces walk through our doors, and even more so to witness them feel welcomed, connected, and ready to invite others into this community.

Second, we witnessed the impact of our youth group regularly serving together on youth nights. As we saw in a highlight video a couple of Sundays ago, the youth did an amazing job working together to help out with the Operation Christmas Child shoebox initiative this year. For weeks, the youth were bringing in various items purchased with their own money to help fill the boxes. And as a group, we put up posters, made bracelets and handwritten cards, and packed over 60 shoeboxes in one night. The joy and sense of purpose the students displayed was so encouraging and it was a privilege to witness their hearts for others.

Third, we witnessed the power of creating space for the youth to reflect on what they're learning about God and his word. We've experimented with giving out paper and pens after our group messages for the youth to write out their thoughts and prayers to God, and we've been so encouraged by how students have engaged. One week when we were running a bit overtime, we even had one preteen say "I want to stay until the prayer at the end," even though his parents were there waiting for him! Moments like these remind us that God is stirring in the hearts of these students and deepening their desire to know him more.

These are just a few of the ways God has been at work in our youth ministry over the past few months. We hope these stories inspire you as much as they inspire us, and we'd love for you to join us in the journey!

This year, we're launching a more robust small groups program, which includes introducing the brand-new 2024 Alpha Youth Series at Gap Jr. With our growing numbers, we have a greater need for dedicated leaders to help run these small groups effectively. And now is the perfect time to join our team! We're hosting a training session on January 5th after the service, which will be a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about serving in youth ministry.

Maybe you have a heart for the next generation but aren't sure where to start. If that's you, we'd love to have you come and check it out on January 5th. See for yourself why we're so passionate about this ministry and how you can be a part of what God is doing in the lives of young people!
